(F1 2020, but this is not really a game-specific question)
Basically, how do I trick the game into thinking VJoy is a G29 wheel, for example? I'm using VJoy now, but if there's another way I'm open for it.
I'm hoping for someone to point me in the right direction or community. I'm not sure exactly how F1 2020 identifies controllers. It wasn't enough to modify a preset config file for a supported wheel, so that the HID (?) matches with VJoy.

Hello,
I came here for this exact reason as well.
I need to try get Windows to see vJoy as a steering wheel so i am able to use my custom wheel and pedals. Most newer games don't support the custom wheel properly (no FFB) and some games don't detect there is a wheel at all.

Try this
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_1234&PID_BEAD] "OEMData"=hex:43,00,88,01,fe,00,00,00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_1234&PID_BEAD] "OEMData"=hex:43,00,88,01,fe,00,00,00

The registry trick works for me in NFS: The RUN and Sega Rally 2 (native PC Version, not Supermodel emulator) using UCR 1.1.27.0.
Thanks dabinn, you are my Personal Jesus.
